Lent Day 7

Hymn/Song: “Jesus Loves the Little Children” Jesus Loves The Little Children (Split Track) (youtube.com)

Favorite Line: “Red and yellow, black and white-They are precious in His sight”

Why: It reminds me that God’s love is unlimited

What a fun song! I don’t know about you, but I remember singing this song as a little child. And I love that when adults are asked for a favorite line from a hymn or a favorite hymn they go to children’s songs. There is a reason why we teach them to kids. Not only are they easy, catchy, and usually have motions, but they encapsulate the message of Jesus Christ. And the message never runs out. You can still find so much in these super easy lyrics. And what a powerful message this is because as our submitter tells us it talks about Jesus’s love.

But, I greatly enjoy the word choice here. You see this person did not say that Jesus love is vast. Or that Jesus has a lot of love. Or that Jesus has a reckless amount of love. That last one is one of my favorite ways to describe the love of God. No, this person didnt, for lack of a better term, limit the love of God. Its unlimited. Its not just vast its unlimited. Its not just an overwhelming amount its unlimited. Which says a powerful thing about who this person believes God to be and that is a God who no matter what is pouring out love. That despite our best efforts, and yes we make a pretty good effort, God will not run out of love for you and for me. That no matter the choices we make God will not run out of love for you and for me. Even when we dont want the love of God it is still there.

I have a clergy friend who I have heard give this same benediction on multiple occassions. He says “Go in peace and know that you are loved and there is nothing you can do about it. So deal with it. Amen” It makes me laugh every time and then it warms my heart. So today I offer that blessing to you.

“Go in peace and know that you are loved and there is nothing you can do about it. So deal with it. Amen”
